Hello everyone

Long time, no post, but I am very excited to share some very exciting news with you.

First of all, huge congratulations to Rick Danforth, whose short story “One Step at a Time” from The Slab Press’s solarpunk anthology Vivid Worlds has been shortlisted for the BSFA Awards, so if you are a member of either BSFA or Eastercon, you will be able to vote for it. I’m immensely proud of Rick, and this is the first award nomination that we can claim vicarious credit for as a publisher.

The winners will be announced at the award ceremony in Birmingham over the Easter weekend. Good luck, Rick!

I’m very thrilled to let you know that I will be launching a new anthology at Eastercon, and it’s available for pre-order now in Kindle version all over the world such as here (UK), or here (US) with a pre-order link for direct purchase of the paperback from me if you are based in the UK. Of course, if you are heading to Eastercon, you can also buy the paperback from me there, and please do!

I am currently waiting to find out the details of any panels I’m on, and when exactly I’ll be able to launch the book.

I read hundreds of stories for this anthology, and was thrilled to see the prompt inspire so many great stories. Sadly, I couldn’t find space for all the stories I loved, but the ones I have selected should blow your socks off, they’re so good.

As part of the Minerals science-fiction series, The Slab Press brings you Obsidian – dark tales of space and isolation.

Minerals is a series of exciting science fiction anthologies featuring handpicked novelettes and novellas from established and up-and-coming voices in science fiction.
Each anthology will take on some of the quality of the minerals they are named for: beautiful, iridescent, themed stories that could be as dark as obsidian, have the hidden fire of celestine, or be full of twists like acanthite.

Obsidian, the deep black mineral formed by volcanic lava is glossy, sharp and brittle. The alchemist and occultist John Dee once used an obsidian mirror to scry prophecies, and so its darkness is double-edged.
This anthology brings together five novelettes and one novella from six exciting, new, international voices. The stories examine the harshness of space travel, the way it alienates and isolates, and its shattering effects on the human psyche. Featuring stories from Robert Bagnall, Mia Dalia, Elena Gomel, Caolán Mac an Aircinn, Aatiqa Mankani, and Addison Smith. What would you do when faced with the obsidian depths of space?

You will be able to find us in the dealers’ room at Eastercon, and watch this space for a forthcoming online event for Obsidian around the book’s official publication date.

Here’s a pic of me and Neil, selling books at Coventry Book Extravaganza last weekend, having a brilliant time. There may have been cake.
