A week tomorrow, The Slab Press will be winging its way to Birmingham for Eastercon where we will be selling books all weekend in the Dealers’ Room.

In addition, we have a live launch event for Obsidian, shared with Guardbridge Books on Friday at 7.30 pm in Sussex. Do join us there!

Online events will follow in which we will discuss the inspirations and intentions behind this anthology of dark space stories – watch this, er, space. I’ve also set up a YouTube channel, The Good Book Life, where I will be discussing lots of bookish things and this will be where our Obsidian-related events will be hosted. There are no videos yet, but you are welcome to subscribe now in anticipation that it will be very good indeed.

Look out on social media for little snippets and insights from the authors from now until the official launch date of April 30th. Pre-orders are available right now for ebooks, and direct from us in the UK here – they should be on the way for the paperback at the usual online retailers very soon.

In the meantime, I have announced the call for submissions for next year’s Minerals anthology: Pyrite. Are you inspired by Fool’s Gold, or do you just get the Stone Roses earworm?

Just to remind you, Rick Danforth’s short story “One Step at a Time”, first published in Vivid Worlds, has been shortlisted for a BSFA Award for Best Short Fiction. If you are a BSFA member, you will find a copy in the BSFA Awards Booklet, but non-BSFA members going to Eastercon are also able to vote, and you can also find the short story on Rick’s website here. Or, you could buy a whole anthology of brilliant solarpunk stories from us, of course.

While we are thinking of awards and things, I am reliably informed that voting for the Hugos closes on 28th March and voting for the Locus Poll and Awards closes on 1st April. I already find myself in the list of Best Editors on that, which makes me very happy. In the meantime, the BFS Awards suggestions list has just opened for anyone to add things to. Our eligible anthologies last year were Vivid Worlds and Hiding Under the Leaves.

If you are heading to Eastercon next week, we will see you there. Do come to our launch, pop by our stall, and maybe see me at a few other things, too.
